WHY WOODSIDE?

Having been assigned a neighborhood research paper for the Urban Sociology Course, I found Woodside a symbolic example of a New York City Suburb. Evolving from a place of middle class home ownership opportunity to a conglomerate of ethnic enclaves, Woodside displays a relevant trajectory in time, typical for many suburbs of big cities during the Twentieth Century.

Located across the elevated Train Station (61st St Woodside & L.IR.R.), Stop Inn Diner has been witness of the changes Woodside has known along time.

WOODSIDE AT A GLANCE

Woodside is one of the oldest neighborhoods of Queens, New York. Known also as the City of Woodside,  this neighborhood is located in West Queens County, part of the New York Metropolitan Area. The surrounding neighborhoods of Woodside are Astoria (North), Jackson Heights (North East), Elmhurst (East), Maspeth (South), and Sunnyside and Sunnyside Gardens (West).  L.I.R.R. (Long Island Railroad), Northern Boulevard, NY Connecting Railroad and Maurice Avenue have been formally set as boundaries for this neighborhood. The Zip Code of Woodside is 11377.
